Coaches’ Rewards / Perks / Application

Who can be a coach?  Anyone, with or without experience, can apply to become a volunteer coach.  Most parents when registering their child(ren) for their soccer season, on the Power Up sports website, can then choose the option of volunteering to support their child’s team.  In fact, you can specify which of your children’s teams that you want to coach.  Some volunteers if they are new may want to start at a lower division to gain experience before coaching a higher division.

Rewards from coaching

  • Volunteers will have early bird registration priority – active volunteers who complete a season will have their children able to have early bird, registration priority for the next season, as long as payment is received.
  • Spend quality time with your child – just imagine the feeling of being the first person there to congratulate your son/daughter on the bench after their first winning game. It would be even more memorable being there to present your child a participating medal, naming him/her player of the game or even taking a photo together with the tournament trophy.
  • Expand your social and business network – as a coach you will meet your players parents and you will find like minded individuals whom you can develop friendships with or even make business or employment connections.
  • Develop new skills and knowledge – coaches will be offered training and information to help them with managing their team, for some people this is all very new information and offers a greater perspective and appreciation on the game of soccer.
  • Learn and re-learn life lessons – coaches know the importance of instilling positive values in their players, in teaching this, they themselves learn a lot of life lessons. A house league coach pointed out that while coaching can sometimes test your patience, it also develops it.  Coaching youth forces volunteers with adapting their teaching styles to fit the personalities, abilities and understanding of their players.  Skills such as effective communication and developing self-confidence are tools that they have taken from the fields and they can use in their workplaces and in their homes.
  • Exercise – by being a coach you get a chance to train with your team and will help you with regular exercise during pre-games and practices.
  • Pride and accomplishment – as a coach you will get a sense of pride in helping your players develop new found skills and watching them score their first goal, each player and every team will have their own set of accomplishments and goals that you will be happy to have been a part of as their coach.
  • You’ll have fun – coaching can be very exciting and fun, especially when you join in on the celebrations with your players and putting to practice your game strategies that result in a great play.

Perks of coaching

Coaching has it’s perks including, you can choose an assistant coach, which means the opportunity of choosing your child’s best friends parent, so they can be on your team.  Feel part of the team by wearing a PSC coaches t-shirt.
